Hang in there

Hi all! Hope everyone is staying safe during this pandemic. It’s feels surreal that I am living through a pandemic. I’ve been holding up okay, if anything, I am mentally exhausted from everything involving CORONAVIRUS (cardi B voice).

I am considered and essential worker as I work as a “counselor” in a group home. I’m not going to lie it was difficult going to work at first because I didn’t want to put my kids in danger and quite frankly I was scared. Then I saw how so many people are losing their jobs and that helped me to appreciate what I have even though it still sucks. My husband is also considered an essential worker since he works in a nursing home as a CNA and there have been confirmed cases at his job with both the residents and staff.

I want to complain but as I am typing I realize that I am blessed in more ways than one. My life really hasn’t changed much since this whole pandemic started. I mean yea, it’s not the SAME, but others have been much more negatively affected by it. I am happy that my family is safe and healthy as of right now because I know that there are PLENTY of others who aren’t.

Even though I am not technically quarantined, I have been feeling more ambitious than ever. I’ve developed a new business idea and I’m so excited to launch in a couple months. I’ve also been crafting to keep myself and my kids busy!

If you are an essential worker during this pandemic I’m praying for you and THANK YOU!

If you have lost a loved one, I send my deepest condolences.

If you have lost a job or your business is hurting,  I  pray that you are blessed and will bounce back better than ever.

DIY scrabble wall decor

I just got a new cricut explore air and for my first project I wanted to make scrabble wall decor. This DIY was VERY EASY!

For this DIY I used 3×3 inch wooden square tiles that I got from Amazon that you can purchase below ⇓

I used the everyday iron vinyl by cricut for the numbers/letters.

img_7367

I would definitely recommend that you make a rough draft of what you want your words to look like

img_7357

I wrote down the amount of each letter I would need and the number that is next to each letter on actual scrabble letters.

img_7358

I typed the letters and numbers that I needed and figured out how big I wanted them

Now that I knew what size I wanted, I copied the number and placed it next to the letter and attached them so that the number and letter could be moved together.

After I was done I pressed make it and that’s where I checked to make sure that the sizes were ok and I moved around the letters to make sure that I was using my space wisely and there was enough room for me to cut my letters. Spoiler alert I made my letters way too big for my tiles and I wasted a whole sheet of vinyl (which I will force myself to use at some point).

Its very Important to make sure that you mirror any IRON ON and I set my machine to custom and picked “Everyday Iron on” from the list of custom materials.

img_7369

I was so nervous to start the cutting process since this was my first project LOL.

I peeled away the vinyl and weeded the little parts away which was so satisfyingly annoying.

I cut the letter and ironed them on. I covered it with one of my scarfs but that wasn’t a good idea because it transferred a little bit so I used a plain white tank top but you could honestly do without covering it with anything.

I used command picture hanging tags that I ordered from amazon which were perfect. I love command strips!!! They are perfect for everything!!

img_7379

I cut the command strips in half to get the best bang for my buck.

Here’s the finished product and the start of my gallery wall!! I hope you enjoyed my DIY and I look forward to many more using my new cricut machine!!

Loc product haul

I needed to re-up on some products for my locs and I decided to try some new items.. So I took a trip to my local hair store…..Side bar- what do you call your local beauty supply store. I always say hair store but as I’m writing this it looks weird spelled out so comment and let me know what you say… Any who, back to the matter at hand.

loc numbered

  1. Bobby Pins – Is it just me or do bobby pins disappear as soon as you get them home? you can never have too many bobby pins.

  2. Rat tail comb – I honestly have plenty if these at home but I got this one because its pink.

  3. Jamaican & Lime no more itch spray – This is a new product I’m trying to help with itching and hopefully it can act as a leave in conditioner.

  4. Castor Oil – Castor Oil has a bunch of benefits for your skin and hair so one can never have too much.

  5. Lock Gro – Another new product that I’m trying. I’m hoping that it’s better than other retwist product that I used to use.

  6. Rubber band- Rubber bands are like bobby pins, you can never have enough. I use rubber bands a lot when I’m styling our locs.

  7. Locking gel – This is also a new product that I’m trying for retwists. I used to use Ampro gel but I don’t like the build up from using it and it makes our (my family) locs itchy. So far I like this product. I used it to retwist my son and daughter’s hair recently and loved the results.

  8. Duck Bill clips – I needed bigger clips to hold more dreads while retwisting.

I am always on the look out for more products to try so if you have any recommendations please feel free to comment below.

DIY Desk Mat.

Some of the links in this post are affiliate links and if you go through them to make a purchase I will earn a commission. Keep in mind that I link these companies and their products because of their quality and not because of the commission I receive from your purchases. The decision is yours, and whether or not you decide to buy something is completely up to you 🙂

Normally I use a desk calendar at work but I haven’t really been using it so I figured I would buy a desk mat to add some color under my keyboard but when it came in the mail I used it for my babe cave because it looked better in there. However that left me with no desk mat at work but I definitely didn’t want to buy another one just for work. So I figured I’d make a super easy one.

I used the cardboard from the desk calendar, flowers printed on different colored paper, tape and scissors.

img_6801

I drew a line because I wasn’t going to put any flowers there because that’s where my keyboard goes but I had so many flowers I ended up putting some there any way.

img_6802

img_6803 I arranged the flowers to make sure I liked the placement before taping them down.

Super EASY and CUTE. Hopefully this inspires you to be creative.

If you aren’t crafty or just want to buy a desk mat. Here’s the one I got. It’s very cute!

I got my tape dispenser, stapler and mouse pad from Amazon as well if anyone is wondering.

Misery LOVES company!

“She is at a point in her life where peace is her priority and negativity cannot exist.”

You ever get to a point in life where you CANNOT let negativity in? This is where I am at in my life. Being human, we already have SO many things that affect us day to day. So whats the point of letting negativity in? About a month ago I made up in my mind that I will try my hardest to remain positive and to try to see the positive in every situation.

This was wayyy harder than I thought it would be! I didn’t realize how much of a “negative Nancy” I was. Don’t get me wrong, its not like I walked around moping all day everyday but what I did do was focus on negativity and let it take over my day. I haven’t always been like that. I think it came with age and hardships. In my case it, the older I got the more I let negative things bother me.

First, I knew that I had to change the way I think. I started filling my social life with positive things. I followed positive people on my social media handles and deleted the negative ones. I’m a homebody but when I do occasionally step out of my lair I only hang out with people who are doing positive things. I tried to only engage in positive conversations and excuse myself from the negative ones.

Ever since doing this I’ve definitely noticed a difference. I feel like a better person. I feel like I am more in control of my mood. I definitely have slip ups. I still have points where I just want to be alone but I’ve learned that, that’s ok! Life isn’t about being perfect its about knowing that you tried your best. There’s no reason to only focus on  the negative and so many reasons to focus on the positive.

I hope that this post inspired you to take those lemons and make lemonade (or vodka, I don’t judge)!

WORKOUT TRACKER PDF

I want to challenge myself to workout every day until my birthday which is March 7th. I started on January 20th. I’ve been working out here and there but nothing too consistent. I use my apple watch to track my progress and I made this monthly tracker that I can post somewhere in my house as a reminder and motivation to keep going. You know I had to share my calendar with my JamieJabber family. So feel free to download it and let me know how you like it.

My Favorite things: Skin care edition

Hey there! Since its winter I wanted to make a post about some of my favorite skin care products.

I found these casually strolling through one of my favorite places on earth, Walmart. There were one $2.50 so I figured why not. I LOVE it. I use one and my gave my husband the other to use for cleaning his beard (he likes it). They are so soft and perfect as an everyday face cleaning tool. I also use the spin brush (off brand of clarisonic) but I find the spin brush to be a little harsh sometimes. I think it’s good for removing makeup residue but not for everyday use, at least not for me.

This mask is everything! I have super oily skin and this helps. I use this anytime I’m feeling like a piece of fried chicken. After using this I apply baby lotion to moisturize.

This is definitely an oldie but goodie. I absolutely adore this stuff!! I love the little beads in it because it helps to really exfoliate the skin and it lasts forever because you don’t need a lot of it.

I found this once I had my daughter. My skin did a 180 on me and all my old products irritated me. This was the only thing that worked for me. At this point this is the only body wash I trust.

When I first saw the commercial for this a couple of years ago I was both skeptical and interested. I convinced myself that it couldn’t possibly work until I went to my mother in love’s (Mother in Law) house and she insisted that I try hers. I did and I was so shocked. It actually worked. I use more than recommended ( I have no self control). It makes my skin feel soft. This is perfect for that shower before bed. I really wouldn’t recommend this as a all day moisturizer though.

What are some of your favorite skin care products? Have you tried any that I listed?

As always thanks for stopping by!
